I have been teaching art to PreK-5th grade kiddos in an urban, high poverty school district in Wisconsin for nine years. Many of my students have had little to no art experience outside of school yet I am constantly amazed by their creativity and imaginations. Patience, perseverance, and encouragement have worked wonders in helping my students achieve success in art.
I connect art + literacy as much as possible because children’s books are filled with wonderful pictures + words that inspire. My lessons focus on world cultures, famous artists, the world around us, and the elements + principles of art, connecting with themes being studied throughout the school as much as possible.
Great things are happening in my classroom that need to be shared with the world. Take a look!
*I will always link to the blog or site that may have inspired a lesson I did in my classroom. I hope my projects may inspire other great art teachers out there–please let me know if you end up doing one of my lessons. I would love to see how they turn out!
